About Me
My practice is multicultural, multilingual (Japanese, Spanish, and English), and multidisciplinary (as a former teacher). My approach is flexible and practical. I work with clients to identify major issues and develop treatment goals. Clients are empowered through access to reliable psycho-educational tools and materials to better prepare them to advocate for themselves and others. We then work together to (1) develop individual coping skills, and (2) cultivate social/environmental supports (e.g., linkage to support groups, strengthening of community or family ties). My goal is to enable clients to develop the ability to resolve issues and manage symptoms independently (without the help of professionals).
I am experienced at integrating psychotherapy with 12-step and other addiction treatment programs. I work with children/adults with AD/HD, and other diagnoses to (1) educate them about underlying physiological causes, (2) deal with medication and other lifestyle changes, (3) navigate educational/healthcare systems, and (4) combat stigma.
My extensive international experience includes 14 years living in Japan and 3 years in Peru. My diverse background enables me to be open-minded, eclectic, and creative in my approach to treatment, and to distinguish personal and mental health issues from cultural and societal ones.
