About Me

I am an Adult & Child Psychiatrist and Psychoanalyst in private practice for over 40 years in Santa Monica, California. I graduated UCSF and completed my psychiatric residency at UCLA and received my Psychoanalytic training at the Los Angeles Institute and Society for Psychoanalysis. I have taught at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute; Cedars Sinai Hospital and The Los Angeles Institute for Psychoanalysis. As a M.D. Psychiatrist & Psychoanalyst, I have a full range of understanding and treatment options. I am a classically trained Psychoanalyst -- but I do not just listen to my patients. I am a talking doctor. My therapeutic approach is anchored in the psychological bedrock of understanding the root of the problem; arriving at a practical plan of action; and guiding my patients through an effective treatment process with empathic and active communication. As a medical doctor, I am also able to prescribe medication. When patients are in acute distress or suffer from depression or anxiety that psychotherapy alone cannot alleviate, anti-depressant drug therapy is a useful adjunct. With ADD and ADHD, medication is often a necessary part of an ongoing regimen. Taking the first step towards seeking help is often the most difficult and takes courage. The ideal therapist to choose is an experienced one, who has enough training, understanding and empathy to work in a cooperative venture with their patient. Whenever acute or chronic symptoms of distress, depression, or lack of functioning are present, psychotherapy is indicated. I believe fervently in the process. Psychotherapy can make a significant difference. It changes people's lives.
