Hamilton Avery, LCSW, BC-TMH, CMT, CYT-1,000, TIYT (he/they) is a licensed clinical social worker and therapist who provides online psychotherapy to adolescents (13+), adults, and older adults across Oklahoma, Florida, and South Carolina. Z works with people navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, chronic illness and pain, suicidal ideation, life transitions, identity exploration, and other challenges that can affect mental health and well-being. Z brings an interdisciplinary background spanning mental health, healthcare, crisis intervention, integrative health, and mind-body practices. His experience includes primary care, hospice, outpatient and community mental health, schools, mobile crisis services, and emergency response. His education and extensive additional training span psychology, social work, trauma-informed care, telemental health, mindfulness, meditation, yoga, complementary and integrative health, and other mind-body approaches. There is no single way to be human, so Z does not believe there is a single way to do therapy. His approach is humanistic, person-centered, strengths-based, trauma-informed, and integrative. Depending on each client's needs, preferences, and goals, therapy may draw from approaches such as CBT, DBT, ACT, MBCT, EMDR, mindfulness and self-compassion practices, positive psychology, expressive approaches, and somatic interventions. Rather than fitting clients into a particular model, Z adapts therapy according to what is most relevant and useful for each person. Therapy with Z is active, collaborative, practical, and human. Z brings curiosity, compassion, humor, and authenticity into the therapeutic relationship. Clients are encouraged to ask questions, disagree, explore difficult experiences, recognize existing strengths, develop practical skills, and participate actively in deciding what therapy looks like. The work may focus on reducing distress, building resilience, increasing self-understanding, strengthening self-compassion, reconnecting with what matters, and creating meaningful change.
